Eno Benjamin stays in the Valley drafted by the Cardinals

After amassing 2,867 yards rushing on 576 carries and 27 rushing touchdowns, Eno Benjamin followed the likes of other Arizona Sun Devils greats Jake Plummer and Pat Tillman by being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals.

Benjamin was drafted in the seventh round of the 2020 draft and will continue playing in the state of Arizona.

Benjamin who received his degree in business in just three years, never gave up hope that his name would be called. “All I need is one shot, one opportunity (and) I was optimistic that opportunity would come.”

Two years ago, Benjamin told me not to be deceived by his size. He does not get beat up easily. When I asked where he preferred to run, he smiled and said, “between the tackles.”

The 5’9” Benjamin not only trusted his ability but he trusted his coaches. “I trust the coaches. (My) running back coach who’s been to the league, coach Herman (Edwards) and a lots of other professional guys that played and coached in the NFL on our staff makes you not only believe it but it makes you want to work harder.” He added, “And what they’re telling you is the right thing and not just bullcrap.”

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is very familiar with Benjamin as he recruited him out of high school. “He’s very durable, very productive (and) a tough runner.” Kingsbury added, “We wanted to bring in a young guy that can learn from two backs that we’re very high on.”

Benjamin will be the third running back behind Kenyan Drake and Chase Edmonds, says, “I’m just forever grateful for the opportunity to get drafted and play the sport I love.”
